Karl and Kate are a young couple making their way in Tucson with their lovable dog Abita at their side. One day, Kate announces she's going to invite her co-worker, Scott, over for Sunday dinner. Karl doesn't like the idea and wonders what's going on between his wife and this stranger.
Scott shows up, gets intoxicated off Coors Light, and tries to have relations with Abita while letting her out in the backyard. Abita lunges at his throat, killing him, leaving Karl to clean up the mess. Karl buries the unwanted dinner guest underneath the fountain in the yard.
But the telltale fountain starts to bother Karl and drive him crazy. He keeps seeing the blood of Scott bubbling up and no matter how much cleaning he does, the evidence doesn't go away.
Realizing her husband is losing it, she sends Karl and Abita off to lay low. Karl consults with his sister telepathically who suggests heading to Vegas and staying with a friend of hers. As a result of the telepathic conversation, Megan becomes impregnanted with the child of Napolean, a byproduct of her intense hallucatinations of the Frano-Prussian War.
Karl and Abita make it to Vegas after a stop at a seedy hotel in Lake Havasu. They're looking for Megan's friend and they discover it's none other than Karl's old nemesis, Shriss Babler, this time posing as a transexual stripper.
Kate, back at the house in Tucson, is enjoying the quiet of the garden when Scott's old college buddy, Hoagie, shows up with unknown intentions.
Meanwhile in Miami, Abito, the intergalatic robot dog cop, comes looking for leads on Karl for a series of other crimes committed off-world. He shows up to pry the information out of Lola, a space witch showgirl, but Lola's warlock lover, Will, saves her.
Lola won't give up Karl's location, and Will suspects she harbors feelings for him. Will wants her to spill the blood of an orphan to begin their bonding ritual, but she refuses.
Bored of keeping Abito captive, Will decides to fight the robot dog cop in a pit dug in the ground. Abito gets the bettter of the fight, escaping from the witch and warlock and leaving Will injured...

You see, when you put it like that, it all makes sense. That is so meta.
